SWEATSHIRT WORKSHOP - Saturday 17th October
Stretch Fabric Sweatshirt Workshop
Saturday 17th October | 10am–5pm-ish
NEW STUDIO — Stirchley Sewing School
1387 Pershore Road, B30 2JR
Join us for a fun, practical one-day workshop where you’ll learn how to work with stretch fabrics and put your new skills into practice by making your own sweatshirt.
This class is perfect if you’ve completed an Absolute Beginners class and are ready to make your first garment, or if you’ve made garments before but have never worked with stretch fabrics.
If it’s been a while since you’ve used a sewing machine, don’t worry — we’ll also have a quick recap of threading and using the machine at the start of the day.
In this one-day workshop, you’ll learn:
How to prepare your stretch fabric
Understanding stretch fabric qualities, including grain and stretch percentages
How to cut a pattern for stretch fabric
How to sew stretch fabrics using a domestic sewing machine
Different needle options for sewing stretch fabrics
How to insert a stretch neckline
How to make and attach stretch sleeve cuffs
The project
You’ll make the Drew Sweatshirt by Tilly and the Buttons — an oversized sweatshirt with raglan sleeves.
View the Drew Sweatshirt pattern
Please note: there isn’t enough time during the workshop to complete the colour-block version.
You’ll receive further information after booking about suitable fabric choices and what you’ll need to bring.
What’s included?
Your workshop fee includes:
Use of a sewing machine for the day
All sewing equipment and tools
A copy of your chosen Drew pattern
Unlimited tea, coffee and biscuits
There will be a lunch break. You’re very welcome to bring your own lunch — there’s a fridge available to store anything you need too — or head out to the local high street and grab something nearby.
Come along, learn some new sewing skills and leave with a sweatshirt you’ve made yourself!
