ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS - Saturday 7th November
ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS – ONE-DAY SEWING WORKSHOP
Can’t make evening classes? No problem! Our popular Absolute Beginners Sewing Course has been condensed into a fun, practical Saturday workshop.
Saturday 7th November
10.30am – 3.30pm (ish)
NEW VENUE – same high street!
Stirchley Sewing School
1387 Pershore Road, Stirchley
B30 2JR
NEVER touched a sewing machine, or completely forgotten how to use one? This is the course for you.
This workshop is designed especially for absolute beginners — whether you’ve never sewn before or simply need a confidence boost to get back behind the machine.
You’ll learn all the essential sewing basics and put your new skills into practice by making your very own handmade cushion cover to take home.
You’ll also create a stitch portfolio containing your sewn samples and useful information, giving you a handy reference to use for future sewing projects.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
During this one-day beginners’ workshop, you will:
Learn how to use a sewing machine, including threading and winding a bobbin
Learn how to change a needle and troubleshoot common problems
Practise different seam and hem techniques
Create a stitch portfolio with your sewn samples, including information on how, where and when to use each technique
Learn how to read and cut out a sewing pattern
Put your new skills into practice by cutting out and making your own cushion cover
WHAT'S INCLUDED?
The workshop is 6 hours in total, including a 30-minute lunch break.
Your day includes:
Use of a sewing machine
All the equipment you’ll need
Fabric for practising seams and sewing techniques
A stitch portfolio to take home
Tea and biscuits
Lots of hands-on guidance and support
You’ll just need to purchase a small amount of fabric for your cushion cover — approximately 60cm of cotton or linen. Full fabric requirements and information will be emailed to you before the workshop.
Whether you’re starting completely from scratch or looking to rebuild your confidence, this is a relaxed, supportive and practical introduction to sewing.
Come along, have a go and leave with the skills — and a cushion cover — to prove it.
ALL IMAGES ARE WORK PRODUCED BY CURRENT AND PAST STUDENTS.
